From Logs to Farmhouse Table

So this DIY Farmhouse Style Table has been on my “make it” list for a while now. And what better time to make it than now, since we just got a saw mill.

After we gave our kitchen the Farmhouse Style makeover this Table was a must. Of course I went to Pinterest for some inspiration and came across Ana Whites free plans inspired by the Shanty2Chic girls.

So this project started by using logs that have been sitting in our yard for over a year. When the logs were cut into boards we cut them to actual dimensions. So a 2x8 was actually 2 inches by 8 feet, which means this table is pretty heafty.

I let the boards soak in the sun for a few weeks to dry out a little more. Then I cut and sanded all the boards. I love how the boards were not super smooth and gave it a little more of a rustic look. One of the boards on the table top, the blade on the sawmill broke so there are some teeth marks in it which look pretty neat and also it gives the table a little bit more of a story.

The process was pretty smooth sailing until I got to the table top. I ended up using dowels to attach together which worked out really well but I ended up having to cut some of the edges of the boards, because they just weren’t flush enough to join. I think they may have ended up shrinking a little as they continued to dry out. But once everything was straight it went together pretty good.

I used Minwax Early American (my favorite) to stain the table and ended with three coats of Minwax Polycrylic Clear Sealer. For step-by-step directions visit Shanty2Chic.
